Is Ron Paul the definition of consistency and common sense political ideology?

The Republican Primary battle is nearing it's home stretch to the Iowa caucuses. Those who have been following the news are probably familiar with the candidates. Names like Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Perry have been at the forefront of discussion. One of the lesser discussed candidates is finally starting to receive more coverage. His name is Ron Paul. I'm going to discuss why I believe Ron Paul is the most consistent candidate running for president. I'm also going to discuss why I have come to pay more attention to him. This is strictly an opinion article, so there are no right or wrongs. All comments are welcome, and if you disagree with me that's fine. Just keep it respectful. Please read on.

If you pay attention to mainstream news organizations, you probably don't know much about Ron Paul. News outlets like CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News have seldom given Mr. Paul coverage. Ron Paul is a United States Congressman from the 14th congressional district of Texas. He is currently serving in this position, and is also currently a Republican presidential candidate for 2012. This makes Ron Paul's third time running for president. Although he is running as a Republican, Ron Paul is known for his Libertarian views and ideas. His views mainly follow the United States Constitution. Ron Paul has served in the the United States Air Force, and is a licensed doctor. He has been married to the same woman since 1957, and has never been involved in any kind of scandal involving infidelity.

I first heard about Ron Paul in 2008. I noticed many people online talking about him. I quickly came to realize that he had a pretty big following. However, like many others, I never took out the time to research him. Like so many others I was caught up in Barack Obama's message of "Change". In 2009, I started viewing videos of Ron Paul on Youtube. They were mainly debates of him during the Republican Primary between 2007-2008. I quickly noticed that his views were different from other politicians. Not just Democrats, but Republicans as well. I continued to watch and follow Ron Paul, and I noticed that his messages never changed. It's like no matter what part of the country he was in, he continued to give the same views. He seemed to be consistent in his values. In a world where most politicians will flip flop, and say anything to get elected, this gained my attention even more.

Ron Paul consistently has been attacked and criticized. He has not only been criticized by other politicians, but the mainstream media as well. His views of sound money, auditing the Federal Reserve, and his foriegn policy of "nonintervention" aren't considered to be mainstream positions. Because of his non-mainstream views, Ron Paul has received little media coverage in the past. He has only recently began to receive more coverage. This is mainly due to his rising in the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire. With the United States being in the shape it's in socially and fiscally, Ron Paul's views may be slowly gaining more popularity.

Ron Paul appears to be the most consistent politician I've seen. He's the only current presidential candidate that voted against the Iraq War. Ron Paul is against going to war unless authorized by the Congress. This is stated in the United States Constitution, and has been broken by both the Bush and Obama Administrations. Ron Paul has yet to change his views to appeal to the masses. He has drawn up legislation to audit the Federal Reserve, which I believe is a good idea. The United States of America is facing huge deficits and debt, and with all the money printing going on, auditing the Fed is common sense. Ron Paul wants to end all the wars the United States are in now, and bring all of our troops home. I think that getting our troops home and fixing our problems here at home should be a top priority.

I would suggest people do their own research on Ron Paul. Turn off the television and stop paying attention to the mainstream media. Mainstream America is controlled by corporate interests, and I feel they only tell us what they want us to know. There are various videos of Ron Paul on Youtube, so take some time out of your day to see what his positions are. I don't know if Ron Paul has an actual chance of winning the Republican nomination, but I do believe him to be consistent in his views. I think we need more leaders who take a stance on an issue, and sticks by it regardless of who it offends or appeals to. Ron Paul is the definition of this in my opinion.
