Opinion topic: Physical fitness, Health, and Finances.

Updated on June 19, 2012

Balance is needed when it comes to health and finance.

Money and health.

Everyone knows that money is essential to our survival. Money is one of the driving forces that keeps the world moving. It's basically impossible to get anything done in this world without money. Everyone knows this. We are also aware that some people have more money than others. The everyday average person's money is considered minuscule compared to that of a rich person. People have different reasons for wanting to acquire more money. Some do it to impress others, while others like having the finer things in life. Some people like having money for added security, which is one of the best reasons for pursuing more money in my opinion. I want to ask readers of this article a question right now. Do you feel that a person can really enjoy the money they have if their health is bad? This is a topic that I'm going to explore a bit in this article.

Invest in yourself first.

The lust for money and the finer things in life, often blinds us as a society. The lure of money sometimes causes people to forget about the things that are truly important in life. Significant things such as: love, family, and health all sometimes take a backseat to the constant paper chase that comes with life. Our health is often the most critical problem that is often ignored by society. There are extremely too many people that simply aren't taking out the extra time to properly care for themselves health wise. Our society in general tends to be naive at times. Too many people have allowed themselves to become slaves to their own ignorance. People spend too much time watching celebrities and reality television. We see entertainers driving the expensive cars, throwing money - or making it rain as they say, and flossing their big fancy houses. It's cool to admire and strive for those type of things, but how does watching these people every move help to improve our lives? Most of these entertainers are in excellent condition health wise. They can afford to hire the expensive and well known personal trainers, while most everyday people can't. We have to learn to invest in ourselves first, and our health is one of the best investments we can put stock into.

Healthy living equates to doing more.

I recall listening to a conversation that two of my uncles had on Thanksgiving Day a few years back. One of my uncles asked his brother; "Would you rather have a lot of money or good health?" My other uncle replied; "Money". My uncle who asked the question responded; "I'd rather have good health. If my health is good, I can always make money". Whether you know it or not, you are already a millionaire if you are in good health. I know that statement sounds cliche, but it's the truth. Think about it for a sec. Do you think that a terminally ill millionaire would trade in their their wealth for excellent health again if they could? I'm willing to bet that you think they would if it were a possibility. When a person is in good health spiritually, physically, and mentally, they feel like they can do even more. When a person feels like they can do more, it allows us put more time and energy into achieving our goals. When we put more time and effort into our goals, it increases our chances of improving our lives for the better. Whether it's for personal improvement or financial improvement, it's still a form of empowerment. Many people today are spending more money and increasing their debt going in and out of the hospital due to bad health. Some people don't even realize how costly being obese can be. The irony is that being overweight and obese is one of the problems we can change if we're willing to.

Final thoughts.

So do you feel that a person with money can truly enjoy it if their health is bad? In my opinion the answer would have to be no. As I mentioned earlier in this article, acquiring and having money is important to our survival. However, take some time out daily to focus on your health. I think most of us have a goal to live as long as we possibly can. Your health is your biggest investment, and taking out time to invest in it daily can't hurt in increasing our chances of living longer. The message of health has even become more prominent in the hip hop community as well. It's great that there are artists who are promoting something of importance besides money, cars, and women. I end this article with a quote that hip hop artist, Styles P said in a video I watch a lot on Youtube. I'm also leaving a quote from G.I.A.N.T., who is a member of the "Bartendaz". Remember that money comes and goes. However, you only get one life. Thanks for reading.

"If you're in the hospital you can't enjoy it. I can enjoy 20 dollars in good health more than you can enjoy 20,000 in bad health"-Styles P

"Health is wealth, movement is medicine"-G.I.A.N.T. of the Bartendaz
